Urology for Children

The Urological Health Center does specialize in treatment for children. However, it is mandatory that the guardian of that child be present at every appointment. The following are some of the problems that children have dealing with urology.

Circumcision  Bedwetting

CIRCUMCISION
Circumcision is a surgical procedure to remove the foreskin from the head of the penis. Some parents choose to have their sons circumcised as a baby. Ususally this is done by an obstetrician(a doctor who delivers babies), a pediatrician (a doctor who cares for children)or a neonatologist(a doctor who cares for newborns). However, when the boy is older circumcision is usually done by a urologist.

IS CIRCUMCISION THE RIGHT WAY TO GO?

The penis is easier to wash, which eliminates odors, swelling and reduces infection. The penis can be washed by pulling back the foreskin.
Circumcised men almost never develop cancer of the penis. Cancer of the penis is very rare.
Circumcision may reduce the risk of getting urinary infections. There is a risk of getting urinary infections if washing is performed effeciently.
The penis may become infected or bleed while circumcision is performed. As well as too much or too little may be removed.

BEDWETTING
Another morning brings wet sheets, your child in tears, you at your wit's end. Bedwetting, also call nighttime enuresis, affects many children,as well as teenagers and even some adults. Although frustrating, its usually not a sign of a serious problem.

IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY CHILD?
NO. Children who wet the bed beyong the age of five generally have bladders that need more time to develop before they can hold urine throughout the night. Some children also sleep so deeply that they don't wake up even when thier bladder is full and they need to use the bathroom.

WHAT WILL A DOCTOR DO?
The doctor will began by asking questions about the family medical history, frequency and other issues the child may have. An exam may be performed so that its results can determine a solution to the bedwetting problem.
